Ajay Seladia.

Designated Partner - Stonebridge Advisors LLP
Bottom-Up Equity Investor - Since 2005
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India
The idea
"Own strong businesses. Buy them through patient research. Hold them long enough to compound."

Ajay Seladia (Ajaybhai Seladia) is a disciplined, research-led equity investor with over twenty years in the Indian markets, investing actively since 2005. He is the Designated Partner of Stonebridge Advisors LLP, the Sponsor and Investment Manager of Anchor Rock Investment Fund - I, a SEBI-registered Category III Alternative Investment Fund, based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. His specialisation is bottom-up fundamental research - studying a business on its own merits, one company at a time.

The Journey - Since 2005

Ajay's investing career began in 2005 and has followed a single, consistent idea ever since: own fundamentally strong businesses, bought through patient bottom-up research, and hold them long enough for value to compound. It is a philosophy of conviction over churn, and of quality over noise, built over two decades of studying Indian businesses one at a time.

Alongside the research work, two decades inside the Indian market have built a practical understanding of market structure, investor behaviour, regulatory compliance and the day-to-day mechanics of the market. That grounding in both research and market operations is what he now brings to the Fund as its Designated Partner.

The Philosophy - Bottom-Up

The philosophy is deliberately simple, because discipline is easier to hold when it is simple. Four principles guide every decision:

  • Bottom-up fundamental research - each investment begins with the business itself, its economics, its industry position and its numbers, not with a market view.
  • Quality and scalability - a preference for businesses that can grow many times over, with durable demand and a long runway.
  • Management quality - backing capable, honest management, on the view that who runs the business matters as much as the business itself.
  • Patience and conviction - once conviction is established, positions are held through market noise, allowing value to compound over years.

The Process - How an Idea Becomes a Position

An idea moves through four disciplined stages: investment research (deep, bottom-up study of a business), idea generation (surfacing high-conviction opportunities, often ahead of broad market recognition), portfolio construction (building and sizing positions with disciplined capital allocation), and long-term stewardship (holding through market noise while the thesis plays out, reviewing as facts change).

The Fund - Anchor Rock Investment Fund - I

Anchor Rock Investment Fund - I applies this philosophy in a regulated, pooled structure. It is a Category III Alternative Investment Fund - a close-ended vehicle investing in listed Indian equities - registered with SEBI (No. IN/AIF3/26-27/2253) and held within the Anchor Rock Investment Trust. It is sponsored and managed by Stonebridge Advisors LLP, with Ajay Seladia as Designated Partner. As Investment Manager, the firm is responsible for the Fund's research, investment decisions, portfolio construction and stewardship, within the framework set by the Fund's governing documents and SEBI regulation.

The specific strategy, tenure, corpus, fees and all commercial terms are set out in the Fund's Private Placement Memorandum and Contribution Agreement, which govern the offering. The Fund is offered solely by private placement to eligible investors; this profile is informational and is not an offer or solicitation.

Demonstrated Conviction (Illustrative)

The bottom-up approach has surfaced high-conviction positions across India's investment cycle. Over an approximate 2019 to 2024 holding window, representative personal positions included businesses in power and smart metering, rail, water and environment, defence, and broader infrastructure - reached not through a top-down sector call but through company-by-company conviction.

Important. These representative companies are illustrative personal positions held over an approximate 2019 to 2024 window. They predate Anchor Rock Investment Fund - I, are shown only to illustrate the research approach, are not the performance of the Fund, and are not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Guiding Principles

The way Ajay researches and runs the portfolio is anchored in six principles - the disciplines he will not compromise on, in any market:

  1. Bottom-up fundamental research - Each investment begins with the business itself - its economics, its industry position and its numbers - not with a market view. Understand the company before forming any view on the price.
  2. Quality and scalability - A preference for businesses that can grow many times over, with durable demand and a long runway, rather than one-off situations. Quality compounds; fragility does not.
  3. Management quality - Backing capable, honest management teams, on the view that who runs the business matters as much as the business itself. Trust is part of the thesis.
  4. Patience and conviction - Once conviction is established, positions are held with discipline through market noise, allowing value to compound over years. Patience is a position, not a pause.
  5. Independent thinking - Look where others are not yet looking. High-conviction ideas often surface ahead of broad market recognition - reached company by company, not by following the crowd.
  6. Discipline within a framework - Carry the same rigour into a regulated structure - research, portfolio construction and stewardship run within the SEBI AIF framework and the Fund's governing documents.
